Kerry King needs no introduction in these parts. The metal world has been waiting with baited breath for the first new music from the Slayer guitarist, who has not only revealed the all-star line up for his new solo band, but also the first single from his first ever solo album, ‘From Hell I Rise’, set for release on May 17th via Reigning Phoenix Music.
King originally unveiled plans for a solo venture in 2019, and has since said that if it hadn’t been for the pandemic, his first new album of material since Slayer’s final album ‘Repentless’ in 2015 would have been released in 2020. Still, with a lineup including Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, and Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda, you know you’re in for a thrashing good time, and that’s just what you get with ‘Idle Hands’, the band’s bloodthirsty debut single.
According to King, the new music consists of “various religious topics, some war entries, heavy stuff, punky stuff, doomy stuff, and spooky stuff, with Herculean speeds achieved. If you’ve ever liked any Slayer albums throughout any part of our history, there’s something on this record that you’ll get into, be it classic punk, fast punk, thrash, or just plain heavy metal!”
Produced by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Avenged Sevenfold, Bad Religion), ‘From Hell I Rise’ is sure to be one of the meanest metal albums of the year.
